Tic-Toc Maroc: A Muslim Roman Holiday

Meknes to Chefchaouen | October 29 | 110 Miles |

With only one more night in Morocco ahead of us, nostalgia is already setting in, thankfully we returned tonight to a familiar place… but in a different riad. This one farther up the hillside from the parking lot and much more modern. The welcome drink, a limocelli digestive type thing was perfect after another day in the saddle.

But I cannot overlook the day we’ve had either… visiting yet another UNESCO Morocco29-3915world heritage site, just 30 kilometers from Meknes. Perched in the fertile foothills of the surrounding countryside, the roman site Volubolis was a terrific site to see. Given just an hour, and taking a guided lecture, we’re lead over centuries old pottery strewn roads, over historic and well preserved mosaic tiled floor pieces and shown the Berber surprise… the remains of this roman site’s brothel.   A funny guide helps to Morocco29-4133make this experience an even better one.

Hot and ready to ride, it was back on the road for Chefchaouen.. only a stop for lunch and some fuel kept us from our last chance to relax (and shop) in this foreign land. And with no issues we land in town well before sunset and have a few hours to really relax… with good IN-ROOM internet… one of the most relaxing days we’ve had overall… hate to see it end actually but it’s time for dinner. One more day in Morocco, a both a border and a ferry crossing… it’ll be a long one no doubt!
